THE PARLOTONES – Life Design
Sovereign Entertainment
Huge at home in South Africa, The Parlotones have previously had a very low profile here in the UK, this rather commercial rock track may well break them though. It seems to have been selected on the basis that it will sound good on the radio, not that there’s any harm in that! The chant along chorus and strong vocals should help!
LOSERS – Flush
Distiller Records
Dark and dirty ghetto-electro, you’d hardly believe this was the work of XFM’s Eddy Temple Morris and erstwhile Cooper Temple Clause man Tom Bellamy. It’s very good in a down and dingy kind of way, and certainly bodes well for future releases.
THE NEW CITIES – Dead End Countdown
Thenewcities.com
Canadian electro-pop that’s immediately engaging in a retro kind of way. With the sort of tinny synth sound that immediately conjure up the day-glo eighties, and a pop-punk vocal, this is an interesting fusion!
ANONYMOUS TIP – The Weirder Brave
Triumphant Sound
You know the rock band you saw that time opening the show at a small local venue, all energetic anger – you really liked them, but you couldn’t remember their name the next morning? They may well have been Anonymous Tip!
WHITE BELT YELLOW TAG – Always & Echoes
Distiller Records
Falling in line behind the likes of Doves with their epic yet introspective tunes, White Belt Yellow Tag have been turning heads for some time now, this track is a prime example of why they’re so popular so be sure to check it out.
STARS & SONS – If It’s Good For Me
Twice Burnt Records
Intriguing piano pop from former Colchester Zoo sandwich salesman Mike Lord, this is the perspective of a bunch of Brighton boys deposited at random in bleak North Wales set to music, and it’s rather lovely.
GANGLIANS – Candy Girl
Souterrain Transmissions
Blissed up acid-pop, this is quite possibly the noise that would emerge if you held Devandra Banhart to your ear like a conch shell. This modern day take on The Beach Boys sound filtered through a sunny Sunday summer afternon haze is already making it’s way onto my play lists for sound tracking weekends spent lazing around in the sun!
