Boo is the first album from Sarah and Jacob Snavely, otherwise known as Dag for Dag- a Swedish/American sibling duo based in Stockholm. Released February 2010, Boo has furthered their popularity following the two EP’s previously released by the double act. At first I found the album pretty difficult to interpret, with strange metaphors and twisted lyrics- but like reading A Clockwork Orange, once you get the idea you can go along with it which is exactly what this album allows you to do.
“I am the Assassin†shows the first sign of the band being pretty chilled out, which is vital for the album and allows it to flow seamlessly. Strange noises and bizarre howling are also a regular occurrence throughout and yet fail to get repetitive, which is always a bonus. “Seven Stories†demonstrates the sort of anticipation the entire album holds, with calm verses and a persistent drum beat suggesting the heavy chorus of screaming vocals and huge solos that follow, this pattern is recognisable throughout.
Towards the end of Boo the pair seem to become more relaxed and appear to have a little more fun, examples being the single “Animal†and the bonus track “Ring Me, Elise†which is a nice change to the previous 40 minutes of interesting confusion that the album offers. In all honesty, Boo isn’t one I’d play on repeat continuously for months at a time, however is still well worth having, the untidiness of it all is almost settling and I particularly like that they’re not trying to be yet another indie cliché, it just sounds natural for the pair of them.
