MIRRORKICKS – Mirrorkicks

Mirrorkicks is an abysmal self-titled album from an abysmal sounding band. After the first couple of songs the entire album dragged on with no promise of a quick end.
On TV and Anything were a somewhat promising start to what turned out to be akin to almost forty minutes of torture. Both of them were slightly catchy if slightly annoying yet short lived in comparison with what was left to face.
While uniqueness can be heralded as a brave and bold move, there are some cases in which it may have been better to follow the crowd, the creation of this album being one of them. The style is bizarre and out of place which gives the impression that the Mirrorkicks are trying way too hard, so desperate to be noticed that it becomes easy to overlook them and even easier to forget them.
Be Allowed is, to put it simply, boring. It does not provide one single ounce of excitement. In fact it seeps by in a colourless and unimaginative blur and the vocals wear down the ears and grate, much like polystyrene being brutally ripped asunder. Thankfully the last two tracks come into sight and offer some sort of relief. The first two songs and these last two, Turning Up and You, should have instead been released as an enlightening and promising EP, instead of this drab and pathetic attempt at rock music.
