JIM KERR – Lostboy AKA

What an amazing debut solo album. The calm, slow few seconds at the beginning of ‘Refugee’ give a first impression that isn’t followed through, it suddenly bursts into an exciting, upbeat and catchy tune. The vocals of Jim Kerr draw in listeners, his individual and deep voice is enchanting. As the album goes on it is clear to see that this is a brilliant mix of individual and memorable songs. The only slightly dubious track is ‘Return of the King’, which grated on me slightly and had to be skipped. The strong guitar throughout the album, along with Jim Kerr’s strong voice, creates a very loveable feel to the 11 tracks. The album ends as well as it began, with the powerful song ‘The Wait Parts 1+2’, which again has a very different feel to each of the other tracks.
