SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS – Disconnect From Desire

Well, let’s be frank and jump straight in by saying I don’t see what the fuss is about. Maybe its because I’m not used to the sort of music this band plays.
Whilst Mojo pronounced them one of their top bands of 2009 and they received a nomination for the Best Breakthrough Act with in the Mojo Honours (needless to say I don’t think they won), it might be clear that they are meant to be something really breathtaking.
Yes, they are ‘majestic’, but as for having different layers in their music, making a bold step into a newer and more emphatic sound, this is not the case.
This “LP” reminds me of a group called ‘Mind Control’ that I did a review of a little while ago. There is just no complexion to the music. There’s nothing that grabs you and takes you away to another place, which is a big reason why we listen to music in the first place.
It just seems majorly monotone – Crescent Gold (the second track) being the one guiltiest of this crime.
Don’t get me wrong, for music that someone may want to relax to, this could be quite helpful. The 3rd track – a remix of the first track – is the most interesting of them all as it displays SOME multi-coloured tones. Unfortunately I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it was good, or even something I would listen to again.
They recently just finished a 4-day tour of Britain. I wonder how that went. Well it was only 4 days long, so that says it all doesn’t it? Not quite a ‘Muse’ sell out yet.
