goFASTER>> – A Modern Education

Poor goFASTER>>, the simple fact that they hail from Liverpool paints a massive target on their heads when it comes to their music, with mindless comparisons to any number of bands. So I’m going to start the review a different way. I met the guys last year when they played a gig at The Cellars, we had a long chat over a beer or two and I became an instant fan before I’d heard a note because these were some of the nicest, most down to earth blokes I’d come across yet. But unfortunately a band cannot survive on niceness alone, sadly, so lets talk about their tunes. The first thing I picked up on when I popped this disc into the stereo was the fact that this is a good fun, upbeat collection of tracks – just what the doctor ordered to counteract the depression we’re reading and hearing about every day! Mixing choice bits of Blur, a splash of Alex Turner’s output and the faintest whiff of their former touring partners The Wombats combine to create the sort of song that, no matter how downbeat you feel, will drag a smile onto your face. Quirky keyboards are the order of the day here as made apparent by the opening (and title) track. ‘Magazine Addictions’ deserves to be a staple of indie discos up and down the country and if it gets into the right markets could well be the track to boost the band up to the next level while the lighting fast pairing of ‘Good Times’ and ‘You’d Better Watch Out’ will have you zipping around like you’re in a Benny Hill sketch. If, like a lot of people, you’re down in the dumps at the moment, invest a few pounds in this EP and you’ll get just the boost you need!
