CHRIS PERRIN AND THE MINOR FALLS – Chris Perrin and The Minor Falls

Chris Perrin has long been a man with obvious potential. From his early days fronting post-grunge rockers Thirst, to solo performances, before returning to the rock sound he had perfected with the excellent Zuma, he consistently showed an ability to rise above the standard indie-rock flock. Now, after a long hiatus (and the birth of his first child), we see a new Perrin emerge. With his new backing band The Minor Falls, Chris is exploring a more subtle sound, most notably on the delicate and jaunty ‘Injured Love’. Starting off like a Jack Johnson track it very quickly transpires that the themes of tainted romance that so often permeate Perrin’s work are very much at the fore again here. So too is the trick of softly delivering a line and then, from nowhere punching out the final word, that reinforces the lyrics. ‘Circles’ is a typical example of Perrin’s approach, deceptively simple it’s a layered song that reveals a little more with each listen. The best is saved for last though, with ‘Mother Midnight’ possessing an urgency the other tunes lack, this is a brooding number, it feels like a coiled spring, held in place but poised to leap the moment it’s given a chance! With such assured song writing and fluid musicianship, these guys have all the tools they need, and with a debut supporting the brilliant Teitur they have the perfect podium to show their skills on a live stage too. Check them out the first chance you get!Check out Chris Perrin and The Minor Falls: www.myspace.com/chrisperrinandtheminorfalls
