DRAGON EYE MORRISON – Drama

May 12th, 2009  |  Published in Reviews

This is the roar of a thousand dead!” screams front man Adam Hatton, like a rallying cry! This is a track every bit the equal of so many I come across from ‘established’ bands, and things carry on at the same level. Unlike so many of their peers, the DEM boys seem to understand the importance of a catchy chorus to hook people and, although I’m no good at screaming along myself, I can imagine (indeed I’ve seen) audiences destroying their vocal chords along to these tracks! The final track here ‘Burn Your Life Down’ isn’t as well produced as those that go before it, though it actually seems to work for the track, adding a dirty feel, almost as if the band have been caught in the act of thrashing the song out. In fact, this is possibly the most potent track here, a thrashing, rage fuelled beast that drags the listener in it’s wake! If you like things heavy and very, very loud… you could do a helluva lot worse than take a look at these lads!

Dragon Eye Morrison are, on record at least, a fearsome beast. We’re not known, here at Call Upon The Author, for our love of the heavier end of rock. But it’s not a blanket aversion by any means in fact, when it’s done well, we love a bit of heavy riffage. With opener ‘Empire’ these lads set out their stall from the off, within the first couple of minutes of this EP it’s clear that these guys have built on a rock solid foundation in drummer Tim, he plays hard and heavy, but with fantastic rhythm (so good in fact, I wonder if he’s Catholic). ”
