Balk Fiction – The Balk Fiction EP

Madness, anarchy, shouting… these things come naturally to the crazy kids of Balk Fiction! With songs about stalking Alex Turner (sorry guys, I’m not with you on this one, but if you want to distract him I’ll happily deal with Alexa!), men who wear pasties (of the Cornish variety, presumably) on their heads and… well, to be honest the rest is so completely bonkers I’m really not too sure what’s going on! This, though. Is the charm of the band, from the wild whoops of Lady Day, screeching and screaming away wile she thrashes at the drums to the lunacy of the words spewing out of Kommrade’s mouth to the relative serenity of Baron Samedi’s funky, dub tinged bass lines. These young nuts share a love for Gogol Bordello that shines through in the music, there’s hints of gypsy punk throughout, but the band know when enough is enough and each of the tracks on their debut EP fall just on the right side of collapse!
