PLEASE ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF: Rosie Vanier

October 22nd, 2011  |  Published in Features  |  1 Comment

Way back in the days before Call Upon The Author, when Myspace was still popular I used to write blogs of live music reviews, one of the most read was a review of a band called Rosie & The Goldbug. I kept an eye on these guys and fell for their debut album in a big way. Then almost as soon as they’d arrived in a maelstrom of sequins and electro pop, they were gone… Now frontwoman Rosie Vanier is back, flying solo but still mixing electro with her quirky yet undeniably sexy vocals! We caught up with Rosie ahead of her heading out on tour to see what she was up to.

What can new listeners expect from your music? Who would you say are your influences?
They can expect big pop songs with dirty bass and quirky vocals. Someone once described me as Betty Boo gone bad. I think that’s appropriate!
My favourite bands are ESG and The Kills. I still love Regina Spector and Kate Bush. I think you can hear that coming out in my music.

You’re about to head out on tour, how excited are you?
Very, very, VERY!
I can’t wait to connect with people and see what they think of what I’m doing. It’s also going to be an adventure. I love service stations. I’m going to make a chart of the best ones and send them to you!!!

What’s the one thing you can’t do without on the road?
Real Chocolate and a good set of PJs. Big warm jumpers, Good music, VODKA!

What should we expect from your live show?
The set up for now is me on synth and my budy Marti on drums. It’s a bigger sound that you would expect from 2 people. It will make you want to dance and get frisky with the person or animal next to you.

Last question… if you could steal one song and make it your own, what would it be?
99 Red Balloons.
