Well, this is a strange beast indeed, an EP of songs that all seem to pull in different directions, perhaps due to the diverse influences of the ands members. Featuring personnel from The Holloways, Mystery Jets and band of the moment Mumford and Sons, as well as the bands core members, there’s an eclectic mix of styles on display here. This, the second in a trilogy of EP’s the band are releasing had this jaded soul wondering to himself “why didn’t they just release an album?”, though I’m probably missing the point completely. So, to the important question, what do the songs sound like? Well, ‘Fuel Runs Out’ is a slightly trippy alt.rock track that really works, slightly sludgy guitars and some off the wall drumming propel the track forward and certainly put a smile on this reviewers face, on the other hand ‘Pipedreams’ , featuring Mystery Jets’ Blaine Harrison, did nothing for these ears, feeling too reined in, I wanted to hear the band really let go and go crazy on this track and when they finally do it feels too late! Ultimately, this is an interesting disc, with lots of good ideas, but it could do with more cohesion. Here’s hoping that will be addressed for part three!
