SAVAGE MESSIAH – Plague Of Conscience

The problem with Thrash Month on Callupon was that it was only a month, which made it difficult to cram everything in, so with that in mind think of this as your Thrash Month Bonus Content Disc, your ‘HBO First Look’ if you like.
You see, just as Thrash Month drew to a close it was pointed out on another website that there was a new band in town called Savage Messiah and they were not just good but offering their latest album (their third) FOR FREE DOWNLOAD – well, I wouldn’t be much use to you if I didn’t get straight on the case and by Christ is it a phenomenal debut.
Those who can remember the furore that was created when Trivium released ‘Ascendancy’ may well find themselves harking back to those days upon first listen to SM’s “Plague of Concience” as they’ve taken what they’ve learnt from the Bay Area Thrash Scene of the 80’s, studied the new millennium kick Trivium gave the genre and then taken it up a notch.
There are flashes of fellow Brit-Metallers Sacred Mother Tongue to be heard on this album, but not so much you could ever accuse either band of borrowing from each other instead tracks like Six Feet Under The Gun, Carnival of Souls and Beyond A Shadow of A Doubt (despite it’s similarity to Fleetwood Mac’s/Judas Priests’ “The Green Manalishi”) stand out as anthems for yet another New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
It is down to Savage Messiah and their live show to secure themselves decent slots during next summer’s festival season as on the strength of the songs on show here they certainly seem to have what it takes to keep a metal crowd happy, so keep your eyes out for any tour dates so you can say you were there before they got big – and this band has the potential to be very big indeed.
