With a name like Turbowolf how can you possibly ignore this band? It instantly conjures up images of something fast and vicious – but at the same time majestic and beautiful. All in all, that’s a pretty apt description for the sound this band creates. An amalgamation of various influences, you’d be doing Turbowolf’s debut LP a disservice by just labelling it rock & roll. There’s a swaggering and grimy undercurrent to the sound, with healthy doses of classic rock and just a pinch of psychedelia.
There seems to be an influx of down and dirty rock music coming from the UK lately, and with this album Turbowolf have just claimed their throne as the kings of the scene. Kicking off with the appropriately titled “Introduction†you’re instantly transported into their world, pulled in by a wonderful guitar riff and Chris Georgiadis’ rough and ready vocals.
If the description “psychedelic-tinged classic rock“ leaves you thinking it could be a little pretentious then forget those misconceptions straight away. “Things Could Be Good Again†is a hard and fast blast of punk rock, proving that Turbowolf are far more interested in the sheer power of rock and roll than showing off any virtuoso skill.
This debut has been a long time coming, the band forming back in 2008, but it’s more than worth the wait. It captures their live sound perfectly, and has a real energy to it that is missing from the hordes of over-produced records released these days. Punks, metalheads and rockers alike will find something to love here – join the Turbowolf pack.
