HOODED FANG Live @ The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth

May 21st, 2012  |  Published in Reviews

Oh what a night it was to be, the crowd inside the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth were in a raucous mood and ready for the arrival of the new kings of the Indie Rock scene Howler. What they were not prepared for, was the fact that the show was about to be well and truly stolen by the Low-if heavy garage indie rock of Hooded Fang. The Canadian rockers really seemed to love the stage and treated us to an infectious and beguiling performance that sent the crowd wild. The bands set was littered with catchy hooks and wonderfully crafted songs, filled with sun drenched, scrappy, surf influenced guitar work and danceable 60’s drum beats. Tracks such as Clap, and ESP which appear on their album Tosta Mista, went down a treat as the band continued to wow the wedge crowd. It was the first time I had seen these guys, and comparisons with the Black Lips were apparent from the start, but to say I was impressed would be an understatement, they were superb, everything you could want from a band. If for some crazy reason you are yet to check these guys out, then you must, and as soon as possible. Get along to their website www.hoodedfang.com and see what your missing out on, as these guys are surely headed for big things in 2012.
