FROM THE VAULTS: EG – Adventure Man

He may have started out, many years ago, as a member of Brother Beyond, but Eg White is more than just a cheesy pop singer. In fact, over the last few years youve heard a number of his songs. Youve hummed the tunes and, even when youve not been a fan of the singer, youve begrudgingly thought to yourselves this really is quite a good song. You see Eg has been the go-to guy for the likes of Will Young (Leave Right Now), Adele (Chasing Pavements), Duffy (Warwick Avenue), James Morrison (You Give Me Something) and Joss Stone (You Had Me). Hes worked with the likes of Pink, Kylie and James Blunt too Now though, he says hes using his own album as a chance to explore something less commercial. Hes certainly right about that. This is a collection that certainly isnt listener friendly. In fact, on first listen youll struggle to believe he could be behind such solid gold hits, but on subsequent runs through the album subtle melodies, deft touches and some lovely lyrics begin to show through. The likes of Time To Fall and Pull Me Trough prove that perseverance here really is rewarded. This isnt by any stretch a bad album then, but on his next release EG might benefit from keeping a touch closer to the day job!
