Getting Misty Eyed With AIDEN GRIMSHAW

August 8th, 2012  |  Published in Interviews

You’ll most likely remember Aiden Grimshaw from the X Factor two years ago where he finished ninth. But one thing’s for certain, come 20th August you’ll be remembering him for his debut album Misty Eye. 2012 is going to be an exciting year for this former contestant, not only does his debut album come out but he also goes on tour to support it. So just what has changed for him since leaving the show?

How have you grown since leaving the X factor?

Erm… Just grown up a bit I reckon, I was only 18 on the show, still lived at home… I know how to change light bulbs and shit now!!!

After having to perform other people’s songs to impress an audience how does it feel to have your own material now?

Great! It’s really weird but we’ve had the album finished since February and I have had it on non-stop, sort of forgot it was my music untill the bands first rehearsal, ha! But it feels great. Really enjoying it

Who have been your main influences?

It’s hard to say, listened to all kinds of stuff as I was growing up, my musical background is pretty messed up!

Stacey Solomon said that the X factor didn’t do her career any favours. Has it been a hindrance or a help to you and why?

I wouldn’t have a career without the x-factor!

You said after the X factor that you didn’t really know what you wanted from it. Do you know what you want now?

I think so… if not I’m am certainly enjoying finding out!

What exactly does your album, Misty Eye, mean to you?

It has helped me understand a lot of things, it was nice to be able to have an overview of your own situation. I suppose it was like my diary for a little while.

What’s the thing you’re most looking forward to with the release of your album?

People being able to hear it I suppose. It’s taken so long!

You’re starting your tour in September, is there anything ridiculous you’re going to put on you rider?

Haha, not yet! We did a gig in Leicester the other day and the lovely people had filled this table with sweets, crisps and chocolate… which was lovely until about 40 minutes later and the whole team were sat around the table just feeling shit and unhealthy! Saying that, there was a bag of mixed salad and a baguette on the table… result!

Where are you most looking forward to playing?

Anywhere and everywhere. Manchester is the closest to home so I’ll be inviting a few friends and family which will be brilliant, but genuinely just can’t wait to get out there and start playing.

Have you had any weird fan encounters?

Not so much that I can remember, I did receive a card with a pop up penis inside it from somebody! That was odd! Ha

If there was one song in the entire history of music that you wish you had written, what would it be?

I don’t trust myself – John Mayer

He’s certainly come on a lot as an artist since 2010 so keep an eye out; he might very well be one X Factor contestant who doesn’t disappear into the ether.
