FROM THE VAULTS: AC NEWMAN – Get Guilty

It’s nice, in these dark and dismal times, to get an unabashedly upbeat album with pop tunes that would sound at home on FM radio and make you want to head for a sunny park and just chill out! There’s more than a tinge of New Pornogrphers style music here, but that’s to be expected from their front man. Opener ’There are Maybe Two Or Twelve…’ sets the mood brilliantly, and the feel carries on through the next tracks until we hit a brick wall with the overproduced and rather too cluttered pairing of ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘The Palace At 4am’, why two such tracks were placed smack bang in the middle of the album is beyond me, as they really slow things down and ruin the mood. Thankfully though, things pick up again and the album carries on with it’s summery feel thereafter. This is though, on the whole, a great album that bodes well for a songwriter keen on taking his craft to new places, and I’d heartily recommend checking it out!
