Lord Huron are an LA based band who having received acclaim for their singles now present their first full-length album, ‘Lonesome Dreams‘, for your delectation. And ooh, it’s a little gem.
The album is ten tracks of acoustic, country tinged loveliness, beautifully played, dreamily sung, and obviously put together with real care and consideration. Now, I love heavy rock and metal, and this album with it’s softness and beauty shouldn’t necessarily be my sort of thing; but somehow it truly is. It has a lovely rolling quality, a gentle momentum that brings a smile to your face. It has proper lyrics and gorgeous harmonies. It has clean, jangling guitars and shuffling drumbeats. It has a sparkling undercurrent throughout, just audible under a soft and dreamy exterior. It has a true understanding of what makes the perfect acoustic song, and it lets you know that with every track.
My highlights – Time to Run, the second track, which takes you off on a lovely humming journey. The gorgeous title track, Lonesome Dreams is a beautiful melancholy piece of wandering magic. My favourite is I Will Be Back One Day, with it’s soft native-American rhythm – haunting, dreamy, and just stunning.
In short, this is a great album. If you like your music thoughtful but with purpose, give this one a go. I can’t think of a single reason you won’t like it.
