THE O’S – We Are The O’s

Hello, and welcome to backwards America. Land of banjos, streams and steer. You can come up, we’ll go for a hike and when it gets dark we’ll play some guitar round a fire, you can meet the nice girls-next-door and we’ll drink some whiskey. Somehow it is welcoming, warm and friendly. The calculated lifestyle pretence and the sound go hand in hand. And frankly, its getting thin. Saying that though the Os are OK. I mean, we’ve heard this before and it is boring, don’t get me wrong, but it isn’t horrible. The only (sort of) saving grace is that they are actually American and not a couple of middle-class English kids. Weirdly enough, the Os obviously owe more to Turin Brakes in terms of songwriting than they do Townes Van Zandt. I do actually want to stop moaning but I can’t because the lyrical themes (of love loss, finding a way in the world) is annoying because I want something nice to say. They seem nice, you see, but it might as well be All-American Rejects with a banjo. Oh well, I know I’m picky, but you must underline the obvious in case anyone gets the wrong idea…
