We cut through the hype and give the one thing lacking in so many places these days: an honest opinion. We're not going to put something down for the sake of it either. For an honest outlook on music (and other subjects), you're in the right place!

THE VISITORS – Travelling

Portsmouth based country rockers The Visitors have been around a good few years now, slowly morphing and changing, but now they seem to have grown into something they’re happy with. Forming originally as a duo, dual frontmen/guitarists Ross Murphy and James Dyer eventually settled on a line-up that allowed them to expand their sonic palette and snagged them an impressive marketing tool when their music was shipped with Sony Playstation demo units to over 100 countries! There’s a pleasant breeziness to the music here, with opener ‘Another Day’ starting the album off with an airy sound reminiscent of the modern country of Keith Urban, but with a uniquely British vein running throughout. There are hints of Counting Crows and Whiskeytown here, subtle reminders rather than broad impersonations. Versatility in their song writing is one of The Visitors’ strengths, with ‘Same Old Me’ adding a bluesy air to proceedings with some impressive guitar work. On ‘Promised Land’ the guys head off in a more rocking direction, providing tantalising glimpses at where future songs may lie. Throughout the album the band make use of their secret weapons, the saxophones of Dyer and multi-instrumentalist Adam Saunders, they add a unique flavour that sets the album apart from it’s contemporaries. The Visitors may not, yet, be a recognised name, but if they carry on in this vein, they’ll be talked about by all the right people soon enough, so check them out now and be ahead of the curve!
