I turn 27 in a week or so; and recently it has become increasingly apparent that I’d getting old(er). I was beginning to come to terms with the slow, creeping onset of my thirties as the inevitability that it is, and I was beginning to make peace with the whole messy ordeal. That was until last Friday when I went to see California based band A Skylit Drive at Islington Academy. All of a sudden, I felt old. Awkwardly, uncomfortably old. I arrived at the Academy as the doors were opening, and I joined the back of the queue of hooded, tattooed, skinning jeans sporting tweens who were to make up the bulk of the crowd. I couldn’t help thinking that had this show been taking place on a school night, it would have been a lot emptier…

Fortune’s debut album has a promising start with ‘Under The Sun’, a catchy and memorable tune to open an album with. The general energy of it is so powerful, and this continues through the rest of the tracks. The first couple of songs blending into one without a pause in between creates an uninterrupted enjoyable experience…

‘Gothic Road’ is the latest album from politically-aware Scottish folkster Jackie Leven. Those familiar with Jackie from previous albums will be expecting his tone-rich resonant voice, impressive finger percussion stylings, and precision guitar picking: but what else does ‘Gothic Road’ have to offer?

There goes the famous saying “never judge a book buy it’s cover,†well, thankfully that doesn’t apply to the unique and raw sounding Sheffield four piece La Folie’s debut album “Risus Sardonicus.†With the artwork depicting a failed and bloody circus ring, the fresh and almost psychedelic songs each cleverly carry a slight “seaside freak show†theme to them, making the album very original to say the least…

I’m generally impressed as the album bursts out with a really strong beginning with “Woah Billy!â€. This, along with Ali Howard’s vocals, bring a very unique and loveable feel to the album. Though a few of the songs are very similar and don’t particularly stand out as individual, there are also many that do. “Love3â€, [...]

Hey guys & Gals, Once again it’s time for us to bring you some lovely free music. Simply click on the track titles to download! Tweak Bird – A Sun (Ahh Ahh) Blending yard-thick riffs with psych-pop blissfulness and a rather lovely, squawling saxophone, this is a cracking track from a band who are getting [...]

KATY PERRY – California Gurls Virgin Music It sounds like Katy has been listening to some classic Madonna, there’s an obvious eighties influence here, but it just helps to make this an undeniably catchy tune. Of course the fact that Snoop Dogg puts in an appearance will help appeal to a different audience too. I [...]

I have a slightly weird relationship with Idlewild. They’ve been part of my musical consciousness from as far back as I can remember, but always slightly outside; just on the fringes. I knew who they were but couldn’t name you any of their songs. They were that person in your office who you nod hello to every day, but have no idea who they really are or what they do. They are the sort of band which, by rights, I should like but never got the chance to. What’s stranger still is that, at the time of writing, I’ve seen them live more times than I have some of my favourite bands; and across the broadest of venue spectrums…

“There’s no mystery about what makes this film the special occasion that it is. The band members – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart – are thoughtful, terrifically likeable and brilliantly articulate.†– The Wall Street Journal Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, in association with Banger Films is thrilled to announce [...]
