First up we have Miike Snow with his new single ‘Black & Blue’, which will precede his debut album. It’s a lovely little track that restores our hope after the lacklustre offering of ‘Animals’. Next up are returning pop pixies Alphabeat who we have to declare a bit of a soft spot for. They’ve ditched the bubblegum pop and seem to have found a volume of ‘Now Dance’ from about 1991, but somehow it really works for them. Check out ‘The Spell’ and we think you’ll see what we mean. We don’t often go in for Hip-Hop here at Call Upon The Author, but every now and again a track comes along that makes you pay attention to it. We felt it the first time we heard Tupac and the first spin we had of Eminem’s debut album. Now, we’ve felt the tingle again in watching this video for ‘Junk’ by Eyedeas and Abilities… we can’t really say more, but watch it and you’ll appreciate it a lot! Something a bit lighter next, with the first edition of Bowling For Soup’s tour diaries, with the expected zaniness from the Texan pop-punks. Last up, we have some slightly folkie mellowness from the Dodos, to ease you into a nice lazy Sunday… marvellous!
