Black Sabbath, one of the most prominent and influential faces of the 70’s Rock topography were, by the decade’s end, a band in disarray. Once the masters of their own reality; the Birmingham four-piece were now battle weary veterans, wearing the deep scars of a near ten year album-tour-album cycle. Black Sabbath’s latest album, Never Say Die!, released in September 1978, would transpire to be their final studio recording with Ozzy Osbourne, who in less than a year, would no longer be with the band.
The loss of the iconic voice might have signalled the end of the band. But, that wasn’t to be the case…
Ronnie James Dio, Rainbow’s founding lead vocalist whose lion’s roar had taken the band to gold and platinum status also parted company with his band. Several phone calls later and a chance meeting in, of all places, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, Iommi invited Dio to join the remaining members of Black Sabbath for an impromptu rehearsal. Within fifteen minutes and one brand new song later (‘Children Of The Sea’), a new era of Black Sabbath was born.
The resultant album releases over the next few years proved without question, that this match was one without peer and succeeded without question in carrying the name of Black Sabbath (later with Vinnie Appice replacing Bill Ward on drums) proudly into the new decade. With an accompanying soundtrack featuring some of the most exciting and dramatic Heavy Metal to ever grace a studio or stage, Black Sabbath rose once more to a place of highest regard within elite Rock circles.
Such was the chemistry between these players, that two reformations of this Black Sabbath line-up have since been made, the second of which, occurring in 2007, went under the title of that first ground-breaking album, Heaven And Hell, and still survives at the dawn of yet another exciting new decade for Heavy Metal.
“Heaven And Hell” was the first album to be released by the new Black Sabbath lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, in 1980. It remains one of the most important and influential of Black Sabbath’s releases and the deluxe expanded edition comes with a bonus disc of live material.
1981’s “Mob Rules” featured largely the same lineup, although Vinnie Appice replaces Bill Ward on drums. The deluxe expanded edition, again, features a bonus disc of live material.
1982’s “Live Evil” caught a band at the height of their powers. The classic lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice giving a flawless performance.

Noisia have undoubtedly created a cult following in recent years thanks to: underground hits like ‘The Tide’, ‘Gutterpump’ and ‘Exodus’ – various high profile remixes for the likes of Moby and The Prodigy – a critically acclaimed mix compilation for Fabric – and a DJ-ing schedule that makes you feel tired just looking at it! That following is expected to multiply in 2010 as we are pleased to announce their debut long-player ‘Split The Atom’ is finally ready for release, the first offering of which ‘Machine Gun’ is an anthem of epic proportions.
Widely known and acclaimed for their Drum & Bass prowess, the 128 bpm ‘Machine Gun’ may come as a surprise to some, not so much a pleasant surprise, more like a surprise that will make you jump! ‘Machine Gun’, so called because, simply put, the guys thought the cacophony they’d created sounded like a Machine Gun, is a veritable aural attack, guaranteed to blow you away. From the anthemic introduction to the explosive drop, ‘Machine Gun’, which is also featured in the Wipeout HD Playstation 3 computer game, is 4 minutes and 8 seconds of speaker ripping, beat heavy bliss that will more than whet your appetite for their ‘Split The Atom’ long-player.
The remix package includes: Amon Tobin, Spor and 16 Bit, the vinyl version of which will be released on April 19th.
In addition to the release of the single, Noisia will be releasing four Drum & Bass tracks from the album on a Vision Recordings EP and four non-Drum & Bass tracks on a Division Recordings EP. This vinyl will have extended versions of the tracks and will be released on April 5th.
Tracklist for Vision Recordings EP:
A. Shellshock ft. Foreign Beggars
B. Sunhammer ft. Amon Tobin
C. Thursday
D. Hand Gestures ft. Joe Seven
Tracklist for Division Recordings EP:

On February 15th, Virgin Records release ‘Rain’, the second single to be taken from Creed’s fourth studio album ‘Full Circle’. This is the band’s first album of new material since the release of Weathered in November 2001 and truly represents the band at its best. ‘Rain’ follows on from debut single ‘Overcome’ and spotlights Creed’s remarkable transformation and welcome comeback onto the rock scene.
Check out the music video for the single here.
After three, multi-platinum albums in 1996’s My Own Prison (6million), 1999’s Human Clay (11 million) and 2001’s Weathered (6 million), the last 2 debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, selling a total of more than 26 million in the US alone, Creed had hit a roadblock and disbanded in a split that left lead singer Scott Stapp on opposite sides to his band mates; Stapp pursuing his solo career, his fellow band mates forming Alter Bridge.
Reconciliation followed a meeting at an Orlando hotel and a decision for Creed to tour with its original line up was made with the reunited band quickly re-entering the studio with noted producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Motorhead, Papa Roach). The result? A renewed sound but with the band’s brand of melodic rock, anthemic choruses and wide-screen canvass simultaneously harking back to the prime and pointing to the future.
‘Rain’ will be released on download format on February 15.

Fresh out of the studio having completed their 3rd album, Audio Bullys (aka Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale) have announced that they will be giving away a free track ahead of the release of their forthcoming album (due for release March 2010).
The free download, ‘Kiss The Sky’, will be available for 2 weeks only from Monday 30th November at www.audiobullys.com and is full of the attitude, energy and emotion as one would expect from these melody obsessed Londoners.
Speaking about the free download, Simon Franks of the group said:
“We are happy to give a song away for free to give the fans something and to give them an idea of what is to come next year on the album. We’re really glad to be on Cooking Vinyl as we’ve seen how well they’ve worked with The Prodigy.”
Audio Bullys have released two albums – ‘Ego War’ and ‘Generation’, each one containing the massive singles ‘We Don’t Care’ and ‘Shot You Down’ respectively. Their third as yet untitled album will be released on their own label Face Piece, in conjunction with Cooking Vinyl (current home of The Prodigy and Groove Armada).

Placebo capped a brilliant 2009 last night in Berlin by scooping the award for Best Alternative Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. The band beat off stiff competition from Paramore, The Prodigy, Muse and The Killers to pick up the prize which is just reward for their constant touring and brilliant new album “Battle For The Sun”.
Brian Molko said of the award “What makes it so significant is that it’s been voted for by fans and MTV viewers and that’s why we’re so touched.”
You can check out the moment they won here and the post-victory interview here.
As the end of the year closes in, the upcoming tour is the perfect chance to see the band do what they do best and show just why they are worthy winners of the award as they play dates in December, including the O2 in London, which is set to be the highlight of an already breathtaking live calendar.

Wednesday 9th – London The O2

The Freestylers need no introduction and neither does their all time classic ‘Ruffneck’. This Anthem has been re-recorded and hurtled into the future by notorious electronic punks Ctrl Z and has been one of the biggest tunes in the sets of the likes of Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Freq Nasty, Deekline and of course the ‘Stylers for the past year!
Every time these two acts have met in the past, the results have been devastating. The Ctrl Z remix of The Freestylers & Pendulum track ‘Security’ was one of the highlights of 2007 and their album collab ‘Turn to Dust’ was rock breaks at its very best, so it was natural that the Stylers would turn to the Z to put their take on what is considered by many as the best Freestylers track ever!
This track was the subject of a Computer Music magazine masterclass and when you hear it you’ll see why. Blending the old with the new, Ctrl Z have managed to keep the ‘rough around the edges’ vibe of the Freestylers original, while stamping their monstrous bassline and synth sounds all over it. Now it’s finally getting the release it deserves with remixes to blow your socks off including; the seemingly omnipresent High Rankin, best selling dubsteppers Excision & Datsik, bassline remix kings Pirate Soundsystem and the fast rising crack house wunderkid Rack n Ruin! The vinyl (Original / Excision & Datsik remix) is due out on November the 23rd and all mixes will be available digitally on November 30th. Coming up next year on the label – Foreign Beggars & Noisia, SkisM, Ctrl Z, Losers, Reso and anyone else we can get our grubby little paws on!

Current skateboard films use old tracks that you most likely have heard before, Flip’s Extremely Sorry soundtrack is definitely one of a kind, produced in Southern California by UK premier league Producer & DJ BARON. Best known in the UK for his Drum & Bass productions and work with record label Breakbeat Kaos (Baron’s 2006/2007 tracks, “At The Drive In” and “Drive in, Drive by” both reached the #1 spot on the UK Dance Charts and his releases are featured heavily on Zane Lowe & Annie Macs Radio 1 shows), the soundtrack Baron has created for EXTREMELY SORRY instead features an broard array of musical styles that match each skater’s part in the film, crafting a completely unique audio/visual experience. As well as BARON making some jaw dropping instrumental tracks, he also collaborated with Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Jim Lindberg (Pennywise), Mack Winston (Mack Winston and the Reflections), Black Mountain, ((Sounder)), Early Man, Snoop Dogg and Warren G to make a soundtrack that is as highly anticipated as the film itself. From atmospheric soundscapes to industrial thrashers, the soundtrack covers an expansive spectrum of music and is stand out from start to finish. The highlights include a classic cover of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” (ft. Lemmy Kilmister & Dave Lombardo), “The End Of The Beginning” (ft. Black Mountain), “Ignition,” “Burn Out Like Fireflies” (ft. ((Sounder))) and “Process Of Extinction” (ft. Early Man). Baron worked closely for countless hours with EXTREMELY SORRY director and star of the film Geoff Rowley, to score original songs that match up with each skater’s personal style, It was also Rowley who was the one who helped Baron initially connect with the skaters to legitimize the process with them as well as with the rest of the skateboard industry. “EXTREMELY SORRY has been 4 years in the making and the most insane journey I have been on. The music was made to serve the skateboarding and the skateboarding is epic.” – Baron Flip Skateboards was founded in 1991 as a vision to create a modernized skateboard brand, incorporating the highest levels of riders from all ages and genres. The Flip brand message has consistently been a representation of skateboarding’s off beat lifestyle and subculture. Some of the world’s most legendary skaters are stars of the Flip team, as well as the next crop of ripping amateurs and sponsored riders from around the world. Flip is set to release their third video in the Sorry trilogy Extremely Sorry in October 2009. The soundtrack will be released by Volcom Entertainment on December 7th, 2009 and is sure to be the benchmark for all future skate films in both the scope of the music and it’s unique distribution collaboration.
